The historical development of computer are divided into: First generation; Second Generation; Third generation; Fourth generation; and fifth generation of computer. First generation of computer:  Charles Babbage, an English mechanical engineer and polymath, originated the concept of a programmable computer . Considered the "father of the computer ", he conceptualized and invented the first mechanical computer in the early 19th century.  The first generation of computers took place from 1940 to 1956 and was extremely large in size.
