A computer is an electronic device that accepts, stores, retrieves and process data to become a useful information.

Parts of computer

Just as we have parts of the body as the head, the hand, legs, head, etc, so also the computer have different parts



The parts of computer are Mornitor, the Central Processing Unit (CPU), keyboard, mouse, speakers, etc.

1. The Monitor:

The monitor can also be called 'Visual Display Unit', It looks like a TV screen. The function is to display visual and graphical objects like pictures, videos, etc.
 It is an output device and it produces soft copy output.

2.The Central Processing Unit, (CPU):

The Central Processing Unit is the brain and heart of the computer. The computer's central processing unit(CPU) is the portion of a computer that retrieves and executes instructions. The CPU is essentially the brain of a CAD system. It consists of an arithmetic and logic unit (ALU), a control unit, and various registers. The CPU is often simply referred to as the processor.

3. The Keyboard:

The keyboard is a panel of keys that operate a computer or typewriter. is an input device that uses a set of finger-sized buttons called keys to enter or manipulate data on a computer or other device. Similar to a typewriter, the keys on a keyboard act as switches or levers but can also be combined to perform complex operations

4 The mouse:

  The mouse is a small device that a computer user pushes across a desk surface in order to point to a place on a display screen and to select one or more actions to take from that position.
Other parts of computer are; Flash drive, joystick, projectors, etc.

Types of Computers
There are many classes and computers, they are:
  • Microcomputers (personal computers)
  • Minicomputers (mid-range computers)
  • Mainframe computers.
  • Supercomputers.
  • Servers.
  • Workstations.
  • Information appliances.
  • Embedded computers


Uses of Computer
Computer as an electronic device can be used in one way or the other to make life easier and faster. The following uses below are:

  • Storage of information.
  • Quick data processing.
  • Audio-visual aids in teaching.
  • Better presentation of information.
  • Access to the Internet.
  • Quick communication between students, teachers and parents.
  • Playing computer games.
